Bogota, Colombia, November 3, 2021. - The District Institute of Tourism of Bogota, ProColombia, and OPAIN - concessionaire of El Dorado Airport- celebrated the growth Viva Aerobus´s offer in Colombia with the announcement of its new nonstop international service Bogota – Cancun. This service will start on December 16 with a daily flight. Tickets are now on sale with one-way fares starting from USD $75, including taxes.
“We are thrilled that Viva Aerobus, our ally in tourism, decided to expand its service just a few months after its arrival to our country with its route from Mexico City. Now, flights from Cancun to Bogota will continue helping a tourist reactivation that strengthens our city as a tourist, leisure, event, investment and business destination of international level”, said Karol Fajardo Mariño, director of the District Institute of Tourism of Bogota.
This new service is designed to attend one of the most dynamic air markets in Latin America due to the high flow of passengers traveling between Mexico and Colombia. On one side, Mexicans are one of the three main nationalities that visit Colombia the most. In 2019, for example, Mexico was the second country that issued the highest number of tourists to this country. On the other side, according to recent information from the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico, this year, Colombia already positions as the second country sending the most visitors to Mexico, only below the United States (January 2021 - August 2021).
“With this announcement of Viva Aerobus, we already reached 32 new international routes during 2021. This shows the great progress that Colombia has made in recovering and reactivating the tourist industry. With this new connection, we keep boosting business relations with Mexico, a key market for promoting our country as an ideal destination for leisure and business”, said Flavia Santoro, president of ProColombia.
Bogota - Mexico City flights - with an average duration of 3.5 hours - will be operated on Airbus A320 aircraft with capacity for 186 passengers, part of the youngest fleet in Mexico and second youngest fleet in North America. Flights will land at El Dorado Airport, an infrastructure recognized by the British firm Skytrax as the airport with the best staff in South America.
Viva Aerobus lands once again in Colombia with an unmatched service, recently named by Air Transport World (ATW) as “Value Airline 2021”. This award recognizes the airline for its low fares and the comprehensive connectivity it provides as an added value (air + land).
Particularly, with this new nonstop service, Viva Aerobus offers wide air connectivity to Colombian passengers to travel within Mexico as the airline operates more than 15 domestic routes from/to Cancun International Airport. Moreover, since Viva belongs to Grupo IAMSA, the leading multimodal transport group in the country, travelers can also take advantage of discounts of up to 50% in the most recognized Mexican bus companies to connect by land to more than 100 destinations within Mexico.
Viva Aerobus has also improved the travel experience through the implementation of new programs, products and policies according to current priorities and needs focused on two main aspects: a) providing passengers’ peace of mind in the event of unforeseen events; and b) giving payment facilities to take care of the affected economy of travelers due to the pandemic. A clear example is its renewed flexibility policy, being a pioneer airline in Mexico by getting rid of change fees. The airline is also 100% committed to health and wellbeing under strict prevention and hygiene protocols according to guidelines issued by the competent international authorities.
"We are eager to keep connecting Mexico and Colombia, one of the most welcoming countries in the world for the kindness of its people. Bogota - Cancun is our second nonstop service in South America and we’re giving them the best flying option with Viva´s unmatched reliability, safety, flexibility, modern fleet and renowned customer-focused service offering the lowest fares," said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus.
