Mexico City, October 7, 2020. - Viva Aerobus, Mexico´s ultra-low-cost carrier, reports nearly 730 thousand passengers during September 2020, this represents an increase of 12% compared to last August; thus, being the second airline with the highest number of passengers this month.
During September, Viva operated 94 routes offering a capacity of 87% vs. September 2019, measured in Avail-able Seat Kilometers (ASKs).
Moreover, in this period, Viva began operating the new nonstop flights from Mexico City to Veracruz, La Paz and San Antonio. Likewise, it had a load factor of 80% which, although it was 5 percentage points less than last year, it was the highest in the Mexican industry.
The airline achieved the highest growth in the sector when considering the increase in passengers in Septem-ber 2020 compared to the previous month. What´s more, it presented one of the most solid reactivations, in order to reach 2019 figures, based on an orderly and responsible strategy that has resulted in the continuous preference of passengers for a service that takes care of their well-being and flight needs, adhering to the strict prevention and hygiene protocols issued by the competent authorities.
As a result of this reactivation, Viva also informed that during October it operates 97 routes. Additionally, it has already announced 19 new nonstop flights on the way to the new normal: 13 domestic within Mexico and 6 international.
From Monterrey, Viva has already announced the new routes to San Antonio and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW); from Cancun to Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosi; and from Mexico City to Acapulco, Ciudad Obregon, Cam-peche, Ciudad del Carmen, Chetumal, Durango, La Paz, Los Mochis, Tampico, Veracruz, Dallas Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Houston and San Antonio.
Compared to September 2019, the number of passengers implied a decrease of 24.6% as a result of the ef-fects of the current pandemic on flights demand.
Regarding the accumulated total for the year (January-September 2020), Viva Aerobus reported nearly 5.2 million passengers and an average load factor of 81.3%. These results, compared to the same period 2019, implied a decrease of 40.7% in terms of passengers and a decrease of 7.9 percentage points in the load factor.
