Viva Aerobus leads the monthly growth of the sector, 36% increase in passengers during February

Mexico City, March 6, 2020. - Viva Aerobus, Mexico´s ultra-low-cost carrier, achieved the highest monthly growth in the sector with an increase of 36.6% in its total number of passengers during February, compared to the same month of 2019, reaching more than 950 thousand customers and with a load factor of 86.8%.

“We have achieved to be the airline with the highest growth in passengers month by month. We will continue to grow in the market, as passengers know that Viva offers the best flight option: low prices, new aircraft and 123 routes to choose from. With us, travelers save on their transportation and have more resources for their travel experience,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus.

In order to attend this growing demand, Viva increased its capacity, measured in available seats per kilometer, by 40.6% compared to February of the previous year. This is the result of the growth and modernization of its fleet, which currently has 37 aircraft with an average age of 3.3 years; as well of the constant opening of new routes. In this regard, only in February, the airline launched the flights Monterrey - Orlando and Monterrey - San Antonio. With these announcements, Viva has already in-formed 4 new flights, so far this year.

Considering the accumulated figures (January and February), the airline also achieved a 27.7% increase in passengers, reaching more than 1.9 million customers with a load factor of 86.7%; as well as a 32.6% increase in capacity, measured in available seats per kilometer.

  • ASK (Available Seat Kilometers): Seat available for sale that flies 1 kilometer (regardless of whether it is occupied or not).
  • RPK (Revenue Passenger Kilometers): Indicates the total distance flown by passengers who paid for their transport in kilometers. It is the measure of the total traffic of passengers who paid for flying (excludes courtesies, employees, etc.).
  • Load Factor: Represents the percentage of reserved seats in an aircraft or fleet in a certain period.
