Viva Aerobus finished 2019 with the highest annual growth of passengers in the sector and the youngest fleet in Mexico

Mexico City, January 9, 2020. - Viva Aerobus, Mexico's ultra-low-cost carrier, consolidated as the fastest-growing airline in terms of passengers in 2019 by achieving a 20% increase compared to 2018. Viva managed to exceed its record of annual customers with the preference of more than 12 million passengers and with a load factor of 88%, one of the highest in the industry.

This annual number of passengers, unprecedented for the airline, was framed within an expansion characterized by the incorporation of 8 new Airbus A320 aircraft during the year and the addition of 23 routes to its portfolio of services. In this way, Viva Aerobus closed 2019 with 118 routes and 36 aircraft with an average age of 3.25 years, reaffirming its fleet as the youngest in Mexico. As a result, Viva Aer-obus capacity, measured in available seats per kilometer, between January and December 2019, in-creased by 25% compared to the same period of 2018.

"The increase in our fleet, capacity, routes and passengers distinguished 2019 as a year of historical expansion for Viva. We are very grateful to all travelers, whose confidence allowed us to transport more than 12 million people; that's more than all the population of countries like Cuba, Greece or Bo-livia,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus.

This growing preference of passengers was a constant in every month of 2019, with a double-digit in-crease on each occasion. Also, a new milestone was established for the airline last year: Viva Aerobus managed, for the first time in its history, to transport more than one million passengers per month. This mark became a trend as is was obtained in June, July, August, October, November and December; that is half of the months of the year.

“We started 2020 with this positive inertia. We will continue advancing steadily with new routes, the arrival of our first Airbus A321 and innovations that enrich the experience of all our customers, as we did with our flight auctions; always backed by a solid business model that allows us to offer the best prices, ”said Gian Carlo Nucci, CEO of Grupo Viva Aerobus.
