Viva Aerobus promotes responsible tourist reactivation in Yucatan, result of the ‘Viva for Mexico’ campaign

Published Monday, August 24, 2020

Merida, Yucatan, August 24, 2020. - As a result of the campaign Viva for Mexico, which aims to promote multiple national destinations to contribute to the country's responsible tourism reactivation, Viva Aerobus will offer preferential rates on flights to/from Merida from 159 pesos plus the Airport Use Fee. The airline will also communicate all the attractions of the destination on its digital channels and social networks to encourage tourism.

Since the beginning of the contingency, declared last march, the Tourism Development Secretariat (Sefotur) has worked closely with the private sector, tour operators and carriers, in the generation of a Tourist Reactivation Program in Yucatan, and with Viva Aerobus there is a relationship of strategic partnership of collaboration since last year. This campaign, result of the alliance and joint work within the State Government's Air Connectivity Reactivation Program, has achieved to date the reactivation of 45% of the air routes to the Mérida International Airport.

“We are excited that a high-impact commercial strategy has been realized with Viva Aerobus. Yucatan is heading towards a better and more agile tourist recovery with this type of efforts, complying with all sanitary measures, offering exclusive promotions and increasing the visibility of the state as an attractive tourist destination ”, said Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Secretary of Tourist Development of Yucatan.

This promotion will be effective from August 24 to 30. Passengers will be able to purchase tickets to Merida from Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Veracruz and Villahermosa, for flying between September 1st and December 16, at prices starting from $159 pesos in single flight, plus the payment of the Airport Use Fee (TUA).

Viva Aerobus recalls that since mid-July it implemented the new payment alternative “Your Ally”. This initiative offers greater cost transparency and flexibility. It is a new payment alternative which allows booking a flight and postponing the payment of up to 60% of the total cost, by deferring the settlement of the Airport Departure Fee (TUA), from the time of purchase until flight's departure. Thus, Viva Aerobus reaffirms its commitment to take care of the economy of its passengers.

“For more than 13 years, Viva Aerobus has been a proud ambassador of Mexico. With this campaign, we reaffirm our commitment to one of the country's strategic sectors within the framework of its economic recovery. By following all health guidelines and offering low prices, we help to encourage responsible tourism that generates economic benefits for all Mexican families that make a living from tourism,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus.

Merida is the third destination benefitted by Viva for Mexico initiative, a campaign which, in collaboration with state and local authorities, has already promoted Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. This actions and preferential ticket prices in order to favor tourism will continue during the year. Through collaborative work with various industry players, new destinations will be added including sites rich in cultural, historical, gastronomic, technological and natural attractions.

These efforts to contribute to a responsible tourist reactivation are carried out prioritizing the care of the health and well-being of the passengers. That is why Viva Aerobus has implemented the prevention and hygiene program Viva With You, which complies with all the sanitary protocols indicated by the health and airport authorities.

Moreover, according to the national epidemiological traffic light and market recovery trends, Viva continues gradually increasing its operations and reopening routes to meet the needs of all travelers in the country.
